Lufthansa introduces special-edition Dreamliner as fleet upgrade boosts business travel

Lufthansa’s flagship Boeing 787-9 aircraft featuring a special centenary livery is set to arrive at Frankfurt this December.

This news highlights how major carriers are investing in brand identity and fleet renewal - factors that often correlate with improved aircraft quality, service standards and global connectivity within business travel.

The aircraft, registration D-ABPU and named Berlin, has been painted at Boeing’s Charleston facility in the US and was transferred from Everett (Washington) to Germany, with arrival in Frankfurt expected shortly before Christmas. The new livery features “a blue fuselage … adorned with a white crane whose wings merge into the wings, turning the aircraft into a flying ambassador for Lufthansa”.

Lufthansa states that the special livery was designed to mark its 100th anniversary in 2026 and that the aircraft “is expected to enter scheduled service in January”.

Further details from the press pack highlight that the special-livery Boeing 787-9 will serve as a “flying ambassador” for the group, combining tradition and future in a global fleet renewal initiative.

In the words of Paul Baker, Sales Director of Global Travel Management:

“For UK-based business travellers, fleet enhancements such as this signal a tangible uplift in the global travel experience, delivering greater comfort, reliability and brand confidence in every journey.”
