Sustainability

Business travel is an essential part of many companies’ operations, but it comes with a significant environmental cost. Air travel, in particular, is a major source of carbon emissions, contributing to climate change and its devastating effects. At Global Travel Management, we’re committed to helping our clients reduce their environmental impact. That’s why we’ve launched the GTM Carbon Offset Programme, an initiative that allows businesses to neutralise the carbon cost of their trips by planting trees. Through this programme, we’re not just reducing emissions; we’re actively contributing to a greener, more sustainable future.

The GTM Carbon Offset Programme is designed to be simple yet effective. Here’s how it works:

  • Calculate Emissions: For every business trip booked through Global Travel Management, we calculate the carbon emissions generated by that trip using industry-standard methodologies.

  • Plant Trees: We then determine the number of trees needed to offset those emissions, based on the average amount of carbon dioxide a tree can absorb over its lifetime.

  • Partner with Experts: To ensure the trees are planted effectively, we’ve partnered with Trees4Travel, an established organisation that manages tree planting projects worldwide. Trees4Travel selects locations where trees can thrive and make the greatest impact, overseeing the process from sourcing saplings to monitoring growth.

How the Programme Works

Since its launch, the Global Travel Management Carbon Offset Programme has made remarkable progress in reducing carbon emissions. To date, we’ve planted 23,486 trees, which will collectively remove 3,854,053 kg of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Beyond carbon sequestration, the trees we’ve planted offer additional benefits:

  • They provide vital habitat for wildlife, supporting biodiversity.

  • They help prevent soil erosion and improve water quality.

  • They create jobs and promote sustainable land use practices in local communities.
