easyJet to introduce Starlink Wi-Fi from 2027 in boost for business travel

easyJet has announced plans to introduce high-speed onboard Wi-Fi for the first time, partnering with SpaceX's Starlink satellite network to provide internet connectivity across its Airbus A320 and A321 fleet from 2027, with the rollout expected to be completed by early 2028.

For UK business travellers, the development could make short-haul flights considerably more productive, allowing passengers to catch up on emails, access online documents, communicate with colleagues and keep track of changing schedules while travelling between meetings. It also represents another significant improvement in the services available to business travel customers choosing lower-cost airlines for their journeys.

The new service will be introduced across easyJet's A320, A320neo and A321neo aircraft, beginning in the first half of 2027. The airline expects to complete the rollout by early 2028, bringing connectivity to millions of passengers travelling throughout its extensive European network.

Starlink uses a constellation of satellites in low-Earth orbit to deliver high-speed broadband connectivity. Unlike traditional satellite internet systems, its technology is designed to support activities such as video calls, streaming, online gaming and other applications requiring a fast, reliable connection.

For passengers, this means being able to browse the internet, stream entertainment and use connected devices much as they would on the ground.

A significant development for business travel

The introduction of onboard connectivity could be particularly valuable to business travellers making frequent short-haul journeys between the UK and European destinations.

A flight that previously meant being disconnected from colleagues and customers could become an opportunity to respond to urgent messages, review presentations or prepare for meetings immediately after landing.

It could also make managing travel disruption easier. Passengers will be able to check flight information through the easyJet app or website while airborne, as well as research onward transport arrangements, local weather conditions and other useful information about their destination.

Paul Baker, Sales Director at Global Travel Management, commented:

"Business travellers don't stop working simply because they're 35,000 feet in the air. Being able to stay connected, deal with urgent emails or prepare for the next meeting could make a real difference, particularly on those short European trips where every hour counts.

"It's also encouraging to see airlines such as easyJet investing in technology that makes business travel more convenient. For our customers, having reliable connectivity on more flights means greater flexibility and potentially more productive journeys."

More choice for easyJet passengers

The investment forms part of easyJet's wider efforts to improve the passenger experience and attract both business and leisure customers.

In addition to internet access, the new technology could eventually allow passengers to order food and drinks directly from their seats using their own devices, although easyJet has not confirmed when such functionality might become available.

Kenton Jarvis, Chief Executive Officer of easyJet, explained the importance of connectivity to the airline's customers:

"In an increasingly digital world, staying connected matters more than ever to many of our customers, whether that’s holidaymakers looking to unwind with inflight entertainment, or our business customers keeping up to speed with what’s happening on the ground."

The airline believes the partnership will strengthen its appeal to passengers who increasingly expect digital connectivity throughout their journeys.

Gwynne Shotwell, President and Chief Operating Officer of SpaceX, said:

"We’re proud to bring Starlink onboard easyJet and transform the way their customers stay connected throughout their travels. Fast, reliable connectivity from take-off to landing means people can work, stream, or stay in touch without interruption."

When will Wi-Fi be available?

Although the rollout is scheduled to begin during the first half of 2027, easyJet has not yet confirmed which aircraft or routes will receive the technology first.

The airline has also not announced whether passengers will be charged to use the service or whether connectivity will be provided free of charge.

Until the installation programme is complete, availability will therefore depend on the aircraft operating an individual flight.

Business travellers should also remember that access to an internet connection does not necessarily mean every online activity will be appropriate for use onboard. Companies may need to consider their own information security policies when employees access confidential documents or corporate systems during flights.

Part of a wider transformation in European aviation

easyJet's announcement reflects a growing investment in high-speed onboard connectivity across the airline industry.

International Airlines Group, the parent company of British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus and Vueling, has also announced plans to introduce Starlink connectivity across more than 500 aircraft, while other major European airlines are investing in similar technology.

For UK-based companies whose employees regularly travel around Europe, these developments could make reliable onboard internet access an increasingly important consideration when selecting flights.

easyJet is already one of Europe's largest airlines, operating more than 350 aircraft on over 1,200 routes serving more than 160 airports across 35 countries. The airline carried approximately 100 million passengers in 2025, with its network connecting many of Europe's principal business and commercial centres.

Its investment in connectivity follows a broader programme of operational and digital improvements intended to make air travel more convenient and affordable.

For business travellers, the development is another indication that the distinction between traditional full-service and low-cost airlines is narrowing when it comes to certain aspects of the onboard experience.

While price, schedules, airport choice and flexibility will continue to influence corporate travel decisions, the ability to remain connected throughout a journey could become an increasingly valuable additional benefit.
