Lufthansa Group reassures business travel customers over summer fuel supplies
Lufthansa Group has reassured customers that fuel supplies remain secure across its global network this summer, allowing travellers to book flights with confidence despite ongoing geopolitical concerns affecting global energy markets.
For UK-based business travellers, this announcement provides welcome reassurance at a time when many organisations are planning international business travel programmes for the months ahead. Concerns about fuel availability, flight disruptions and rising operational costs have been heightened by tensions affecting global fuel supply routes, making airline stability an important consideration for corporate travel planning.
In an interview published by Lufthansa Group, Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer of the Lufthansa Group, addressed concerns about the potential impact of fuel supply challenges on summer travel. He said:
"Yes, that applies to us as well. At all six European hubs of the Lufthansa Group - Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Vienna, Brussels and Rome - as well as abroad, there are no signs from our suppliers that fuel supply will be at risk this summer."
The reassurance comes despite the fact that almost a quarter of jet fuel shipments destined for Europe normally pass through the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important shipping route that has attracted considerable attention in recent months. Lufthansa Group explained that alternative supply arrangements are already in place, with increasing fuel imports arriving from North America and Africa, while European refineries have increased production to help maintain supply.
Addressing whether customers should feel confident booking travel this summer, Mr Vranckx said:
"Absolutely - fuel supply is stable so summer's good to go."
He also highlighted the scale of the Lufthansa Group network, which offers connections to more than 300 destinations across over 100 countries. The group includes Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and ITA Airways, providing extensive connectivity for both leisure and business travel.
Mr Vranckx added:
"I say this with full conviction: our airlines are ready for summer, our network is strong - our customers can rely on us."
The announcement follows a period of heightened scrutiny across the aviation sector as airlines and governments have monitored fuel supplies and rising fuel costs. Lufthansa Group has stated that its suppliers continue to indicate a stable fuel outlook across all of its major European hubs and international operations.
Commenting on the news, Paul Baker, Sales Director at Global Travel Management, said:
"Business travellers need confidence that their travel plans will proceed as expected, particularly during busy summer periods when meetings, conferences and client visits are scheduled months in advance. Lufthansa Group's reassurance regarding fuel availability will be welcomed by organisations that rely on international business travel, providing additional confidence when planning trips across Europe and worldwide."
For companies managing international business travel programmes, the news underlines the importance of working with airline partners that have robust operational planning and resilient supply arrangements in place. As demand for business travel remains strong, certainty around airline operations helps organisations maintain productive travel schedules and fulfil their commercial commitments.
