Uber’s planned Blacklane acquisition set to reshape premium business travel ground transport

Uber is reportedly close to acquiring global chauffeur service Blacklane in a deal that could significantly expand its premium mobility offering worldwide.

For UK-based business travellers, this development is particularly relevant as it signals a potential shift in the availability and quality of premium, pre-booked ground transport, with greater integration between ride-hailing platforms and chauffeur-driven services likely to improve consistency, reliability and global coverage for business travel programmes.

Uber’s planned acquisition of Berlin-based Blacklane, a premium chauffeur service operating in more than 40 countries, is understood to be nearing completion, with reports suggesting a valuation in the “upper three-digit millions”, although final terms have not yet been disclosed. Blacklane, founded in 2011, specialises in pre-booked, fixed-rate chauffeur services and works with a global network of professional drivers rather than owning its own fleet.

The move reflects Uber’s broader strategy to strengthen its position in higher-end ground transportation, an area where it has historically faced challenges around consistency and service standards. By integrating Blacklane’s established chauffeur network and operational model, Uber is expected to enhance its offering for travellers seeking more reliable, premium journeys, particularly for airport transfers and intercity travel.

Blacklane’s existing global footprint, combined with backing from major investors including Mercedes-Benz, positions it as a strong complement to Uber’s platform, potentially enabling the combined business to deliver a more seamless door-to-door experience across both on-demand and pre-arranged services.

Paul Baker, Sales Director of Global Travel Management, said

“This is a significant development for business travel as it highlights the growing importance of reliable, premium ground transportation within managed travel programmes, giving UK travellers greater choice and improved consistency when moving between airports, cities and meetings.”

As business travel continues to evolve, the integration of premium chauffeur services into major mobility platforms is likely to play an increasingly important role in supporting productivity, traveller wellbeing and duty of care for organisations operating internationally.
